My Thai Carving Knives

Culinary Sculptures is owned by Sue Wagner and is located in San Diego, CA.  Sue has been honored with numerous prestigious American Culinary Federation awards for her carved creations, including:  Gold Medal at the 2010 San Diego Culinary Challenge, Judges Choice Award at the 2010 Las Vegas Culinary Challenge, and Best of Show at the 2009 Las Vegas Culinary Challenge.

Sue has studied with Chef Ray Duey of Chef Ray Presents (Chef Garnish) and currently studies with Chef Jean-Marc Montjarret of JM Creative Designs.  She focuses on Thai fruit and vegetable carving techniques only using a small, flexible, and sharp knife.

Sue enjoys carving all types of melons, winter squash, and vegetables.  Her carvings take many hours to complete depending upon the amount of detail.  The goal is to make her flowers look realistic and, if possible, she likes to identify the "flower variety" she has carved.

In addition to carved centerpieces, Sue creates custom soap sculptures.  Soap carvings can be enjoyed for many years.  Similar techniques used in fruit and vegetable carving are also used in soap carving.  Each soap is hand-carved and painted, and then placed in a decorative display case.  Each soap carving is one of a kind.  Check out her soap carvings at www.soapsculpture.com.

Sue teaches basic fruit and vegetable carving classes (group and private) and conducts demonstrations in the San Diego area.  If you are interested, send her an email by way of her contact page.

Sue has a Ph.D. in Education from The Pennsylvania State University.
